WET COLLODION ALBUM COVER & MUSIC VIDEO IN CAMERA OBSCURA FOR LAERTIS

Kenny Allstar is a British DJ and radio presenter. We shot wet collodion portraits of Kenny, accompanying launch of his new album

After consultation in my studio with project coordinator, we set up a date and initially planned to shoot at Maida Vaile studios. Plan had to be adapter due to unforeseen circumstances we changed place of the shot to my studio.

  • During first sessions, plates were shot in my studio and processed ‘on the spot’ after each shot. Full day shot resulted in 6 plates from which we chose two for single covers.

  • Second session of the main album cover took place on location in Ruislip Woods, plates were shot and developed in pop up darkroom, resulting in two 12x16cm plates on glass

  • Plates were scanned after the shoots and had to be varnished for protection and varnish took a week to dry.

  • For album cover, after scanning a negative was created and platinum print made in the darkroom. Afterwards gold was applied to the print and image was scanner and delivered as file to the artist.

CAMERA OBSCURA VIDEO

  • For the song ‘Spirit’ 8mm music video was created on location in life size Camera obscura. Camera obscura is an ancestor of photographic camera. It's a darkened room with a hole, through which image from the outside is projected inside the room. This optical phenomenon causes the image to be projected upside down. Shot & directed using super 8 Canon camera.

OUTCOMES

Images were delivered as scans to the artist and used for 3 album covers. Music video on 8mm was scanned and delivered as digital file to the artist, creating coherent visual identity for his album ‘Les Vulnerables’.
